Weta’s Perfect Replica ‘Doctor Who’ Dalek, a “Must Have” Doctor Who Collectible
Here’s an amazing collectible from Doctor Who that no serious Doctor Who collector can look past.
It’s a perfect 1:6 scale replica model of the Dalek from the Christopher Eccleston episode titled ‘Dalek’ (first aired 14 April 2006).
Details and product video after the jump.
In the episode, a billionaire collector holds the last relic of an extinct alien race, the oldest and deadliest of the Doctor’s foes, a Dalek. When the metal encased mutant escapes its prison and captures Rose (Billie Piper), her death seems assured, but surprising everyone, the Dalek spares her.
In emotional turmoil, the Dalek opens its armoured frame to let sunlight play over the pitiful being inside, the creature exhibits tenderness and vulnerability uncharacteristic of its maniacal brethren. When the Doctor arrives to rescue Rose, she pleads for the Dalek, forcing him to choose between compassion and revenge for the extermination of his people.
This model, sculpted by Weta Workshop’s David Tremont and Daniel Cockersell, highlights that moment from the episode with exact detail. Watch this short product video:
Perfect Dalek’s should be more expensive than this, but I think this is really cheap at NZD$532.44 – which translates to around US $300 (depending on the day).
