Dark Lord Sauron Polystone Statue

The Dark Lord Sauron Polystone Statue is a brilliant movie collectible from Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings.  It was manufactured by Sideshow Collectibles in 2008 as a Limited Edition of 9,500 pieces.  Every single piece sold out (as is usually the case with Lord of the Rings collectibles).

I’ve found what could amount to be an absolute bargain.  One of these Limited Edition Sauron statues, No. 420 of 9,500, is now for sale on eBay. It is advertised as being in flawless condition.

Here’s the bargain part.  There’s only 1 day left on the auction and the current bid price is an excruciatingly low $91.  These originally sold for US$300 prior to selling out, so to get one at a price any less than that is a steal.  Just go and read the reviews at Sideshow and you’ll see five stars out of five stars consistently for this particular collectible.

Sauron’s size is 24″ tall and weighs a hefty 60 lbs.

Ringwraith Legendary Scale Bust Limited Edition 800 (click to enlarge)

Only 800 Ringwraith Legendary Scale Bust’s were produced by Sideshow Collectibles and all sold out more than a year ago.  So as soon as I spotted one for sale here on eBay I had to post about it.

The item is advertised as “new” but obviously it is “second hand” or perhaps more accurately “as new”.

Unfortunately the seller hasn’t posted a photo of the collectible itself – instead he’s posted one of Sideshow Collectibles’ own original photo’s (the same as I’ve done above).  Still, if it’s as new like advertised then it should look exactly the same.

This is a rare opportunity to snap up one of these practically impossible to find Lord of the Rings collectibles.

It is listed with a starting bid price of $174.95 which is a little cheaper than Sideshow’s original asking price of $179.95.  It also only has 1 day left to go so if you want one, you’ll have to hurry.

Smaug the Golden Dragon Bronze Sculpture Limited Edition 20 (click to enlarge)

Smaug the Golden is the first sculpture in John Howe’s and Weta’s range of sculptures from Middle-Earth.  The Art of John Howe – Sculptures from Middle-Earth is a series of sculptures from Howe’s representations of Tolkien’s worlds, sculpted by Weta sculptors Daniel Cockersell, Brigitte Wuest and Eden Small under the creative guidance of John Howe and Richard Taylor.

Having adorned the cover of The Hobbit, it is an instantly recognizable image to fans of Lord of the Rings, and with two The Hobbit feature films on the way, this is sure to become a prize collectible given it’s a Limited Edition of only 20 pieces.

The sculpture is based on Howe’s original artwork that was first published on the cover of the paperback edition of The Hobbit in 1991:

Of course, not all Lord of the Rings collections can afford a bronze version of Smaug, and for this reason Weta are also offering a faux-bronze version too.  Although not made purely from bronze, from the outside will look largely the same in your LOTR collection.

Limited Edition Easterling Miniature Shield LOTR Prop Replica (click to enlarge)

The Easterling Miniature Shield is a miniature version of the actual prop made by Weta for Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings.

The Easterlings were descendents of the Wild Men of the unknown east of Middle-Earth who had a fierce reputation.  In the movie The Lord of the Rings, the Easterlings were featured walking out of the Black Gates of Mordor.  In The Two Towers they almost stumble over Sam and Frodo.  In The Return of the King they take part in the Battle of the Pelennor Fields and the Siege of Minas Tirith.

The Easterling Miniature Shield is a Limited Edition piece of only 2000, made  by the same artists and craftsmen who made the original film prop.

The shield is made from metal and can be worn as a badge as well as displayed on the stand.

Weta are taking pre-orders now for shipping later in 2009.

Limited Edition Life-Size Bronze Statue of Gollum

I often refer to the collectibles I post here as “works of art” and no more does such a label apply than it does to this life-size statue of Gollum from Lord of the Rings. This is truly a work of art befitting not only a serious Lord of the Rings collection, but even an art gallery.

Bronze Gollum stands 3 ft 6 in; crouching on the rock, he reaches a height of approx 150 cm.  He stands at the exact same dimensions as Gollum in Peter Jackson’s films because this statue is sculptured by the same people who brought his image to the screen.

Now, he’s pure bronze so guess what, not everyone is going to be able to afford him at a price of NZD $23,810.00.

This unbelievable Lord of the Rings collector’s piece is also a very, very limited item.  Only 30 of them will be made, and those will be made specifically to order.  Until you pay your $3000 non-refundable deposit, your Bronze Gollum Statue doesn’t exist.

Once you order him you’ll also have to wait 6 months for delivery.  Since he’s made to order at such a high quality, you simply have to be patient.

Bronze Gollum comes with a Certificate of Authenticity signed by Weta Creative Director Richard Taylor.

Of course, not everyone can afford a real bronze statue of Gollum, but if you’re taken by this statue for roughly a quarter of the price you can purchase a faux bronze looking fibreglass version.

Gandalf the Grey's cloak from 'The Lord of the Rings'

This is mighty expensive but a mighty awesome piece of movie collectible clothing – a made to order exact replica of Gandalf the Grey’s cloak from the original Lord of the Rings.

It is made by Stansborough, who provided the material for the original cloak for The Lord Of The Rings.  It took over 10 years to create the special wool breed of unique grey sheep known as the ‘Stansborough Grey’ and now they are the only kind in the world.  The ‘Stansborough Grey’ sheep wool is spun and then woven on 1890’s looms at the Stansborough Weaving Mill in Wellington.

Comes in three lengths, S, M and L with a 6-inch (15 cm) difference in length – the cloak pin in the image isn’t included.
